Analysing the Transfer Gossip – 1st July Part Two: Higuain, David Villa and more

As we move in to the off-season an unprecedented amount of managerial movement around Europe will surely see an already frantic transfer market go in to overdrive. This will give plenty of opportunities for transfer rumour and gossip. So how much of it is realistic?

Part One is here.

Arsenal fear being hijacked by richer rivals in their bid to sign Wayne Rooney, 27, from Manchester United and 25-year-old Gonzalo Higuain from Real Madrid.

Full story: Daily Star

What’s the story? Well realistically this is more to do with Real Madrid and Man United not selling rather than Arsenal not being able to afford it.

Does it make sense? Two new managers, both with differing sway on transfer policy, but nonetheless both with a say in what happens. Neither has had a chance to make a significant decision on them so if Arsenal were to sign them, they’ll need to wait.

Is the price right? £22m for Higuain is a bargain, even for Arsenal. Rooney will be much more of a problem. Huge wage, huge transfer fee.

Will it happen? 5/10 – Higuain seemed signed but now isn’t and Rooney is still a long way off.
