Ander Herrera desperate to get a Spain call-up for Euro 2016
Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has remained determined to play for the Spanish national team and is desperate to force his way into Vicente Del Bosque’s plans in time for Euro 2016, the club’s official website reported. Herrera has been sidelined through injury, but he is ready to prove he is worthy of joining David De Gea and Juan Mata in the national camp.
The 26-year-old is yet to win his first cap for La Roja, who enjoyed a stunning 4-0 win over Luxembourg on Friday to secure their qualification for Euro 2016 which will be held in France next summer. We all know Spain is gifted with talented players especially in midfield and Del Bosque is being spoilt for choice with his options in midfield. Despite the likes of Andres Iniesta, Cesc Fabregas, Santi Cazorla, David Silva and Sergio Busquets in the current squad, Herrera still dreams of breaking into the side when the tournament comes around.
"Of course, I wish for it," Herrera, told MUTV.
"It's the next step for me. When you arrive at Manchester United, you are now in the biggest club with the best supporters and maybe the most followed club in the world.”
"Last season, I think I had a good season. The fans were happy with me and the manager as well. Of course, I can play well or I can play badly, but I always give my best and I think I am doing well enough to get into the national squad. It's my next step.”
"I know we have, in Spain, maybe the best midfielders in the world right now but I think I have the quality to be in the national team. I will fight for it. I fought last season for that and I am trying to do it again. I think I have the quality to be in it and I am showing that."
Herrera admits Spain call-up is the next step for him
The former Athletic Bilbao player is confident that if he can play well at club level alongside his teammates Juan Mata and David De Gea, he has admitted that Spain call-up will come soon for him.
"I think I am ready to help the team [at United], help my teammates, and I am going to play wherever the manager wants me to play," he added.
"So I am doing the right things to get into the national team but, of course, the [international] manager will decide.”
"Of course, it's the next dream, the next step for me. I know it's difficult but I will try to do my best to be involved in the European Championship."
