Andres Iniesta set to sign a new contract with Barcelona
Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta has rubbishes rumours of him leaving the club and has stated that he is ready to sign a new contract, Sky Sports reports.
According to reports, Manchester United and Manchester City had expressed interest in the player after his failure to sign a new deal with the club.
In spite of that, Iniesta, while speaking to the press before Spain’s clash with Georgia, said that he has no interest in leaving his boyhood club.
“You have to be where you want to be, and Barca is the place for me,” Iniesta said.
“The club knows that and wants me to stay, so I hope and expect to spend the years I have left playing there.”
The Spanish international was taken aback when Real Madrid sold playmaker Mesut Ozil to Arsenal.
“I was surprised Real Madrid sold him,” he continued.
“Right now he is one of the best in the world when it comes to linking up with and getting the most out of other players.”
The 29-year-old is thrilled with his teams perfect start to the season and has heaped praise on coach Gerardo Martino.
“Tata has come in and kept things ticking along,” he added. “The philosophy he believes in and gets across is very similar to the one we have had all along.
“I am hoping for a great year and that is the way things are shaping up.”
Iniesta has won 7 La Liga titles with Barcelona and a World Cup with Spain.
