After speculation that Manchester City and Manchester United might be after his signature began making the rounds, Andre Iniesta’s father has down played the news and said that he is confident of the player extending his contract with Barcelona, as per reports from Sky Sports.

Iniesta has been at Barcelona for 18 years, his entire playing career, and is widely regarded as one of the finest players for both club and country. He has won 6 La Liga titles and 3 Champions League titles with Barcelona, and 2 European Championships and the 2010 World Cup with the Spanish national side.

He is an integral part of the current-day Barcelona squad and his father, Jose Antonio, believes his son Andre will extend his stay at the club.

Iniesta’s current contract with the Catalan giants expires in 2015, and there were reports suggesting that he had turned down a new contract offer. However, it seems that talks are still on, and Andre would most likely be a part of the club in the future.

Speaking on the radio programme La Xarxa, Jose Antonio said: “Anyone who knows Andres, who has spent 18 years at Barcelona, shouldn’t doubt his words.”

“Andres is still vital to Barcelona’s style of play.”, added his father.
