Andy Carroll hopes move to West Ham will help World Cup aspirations

Andy Carroll has admitted that his decision to move to West Ham United is likely to heighten his chances of playing in the 2014 World Cup.

The former Liverpool player entered into a contract with the London based club on 19 June, managing to make a positive impression, while on loan, at Upton Park last season.

Carroll, 24, who had a tough time making it under the leadership of Brendon Rogers, is hoping that a permanent move will improve his chances of playing for his national team at the World Cup set to take place in Brazil in 2014.

“My aim is keeping fit, scoring goals and performing every week,” Carroll said during an interview with the Daily Mail.

“If I do that I’ll hopefully get in the England team. It’s always important to play football for your country. If I play well and keep fit, I’m going to be playing every week. If it comes, England will come.

“Sam’s [Allardyce] a great manager. It’s always good when you’ve got somebody behind you. He gives me confidence to show what I am about.”

West Ham is gearing up to kick off their Premier League campaign with their first match scheduled against newcomers Cardiff City at home.
