Angel Di Maria speaks about his decision to leave Manchester United
Speaking to the press, Angel Di Maria justified his decision to swap the English giants Manchester United for the French champions Paris Saint-Germain. He admitted that things did not go well for his family and him in England, BBC reports. The reported sum for the player is £44 million, which incidentally means that Di Maria is now the most expensive player in the world on cumulative transfer fees.
After a drawn out exchange between United and Di Maria that included a no-show in training from the player, the move has finally gone through making the Argentine a PSG player. The Parisians were interested in the winger even last summer when he made the nearly £60 million move to United from Real Madrid, it was a transfer that broke the British record for the highest transfer fee and it still stands today.
United officially made the announcement through their website and Twitter account. PSG also made the announcement through social media but later had a press conference to officially unveil the player.
Speaking about his big-money move, Apparently indicating that his family felt unsafe after an attempted break-in at their Cheshire home. According to the BBC, Di Maria said: “I'm happy because I know my wife and child will be happy in Paris.”
He also spoke about the decision that he took to make the switch. He said: “It wasn't just my decision to leave. If I left it was also because they decided to sell me.
“The three parties agreed. Me, Manchester United and PSG agreed the deal,” he added.
Paris Saint-Germain have dominated the domestic French football circuit for nearly 4 years now. They signed David Luiz last season for a whopping £50 million from Chelsea and now have made the Argentine their own in a bid for progress in Europe.
They have fallen woefully short of the mark in the UEFA Champions League having failed to move past the quarter-final stage in the competition. Securing a Champions League final man-of-the-match performer may just give them the extra boost that may be needed to contend with the big boys in the prestigious competition.
The club’s president Nasser Al-Khelaifi hinted towards the club’s European ambitions during Di Maria’s unveiling at PSG. He said: “I know a lot of big clubs were interested because he is a great player.
"He's already won the Champions League with Real; I hope he can do it with us.”
