Angola and Madagascar lock horns at the Free State Stadium in South Africa on Friday for their semi-final clash in the 2025 COSAFA Cup. Ranked 87th in the world, the Black Sable Antelopes cantered into the knockout stages as Group B winners after collecting seven points from three games.
Their campaign began with a lowly 1-1 draw to Namibia, who pegged them back in the 97th minute to force a share of the spoils.
But Angola recovered to beat Lesotho 4-0 on matchday two, powered by a hat-trick from Laurindo Depu, before a narrow 1-0 victory over Malawi in their final group fixture, which confirmed their passage into the next round of the competition.
Pedro Gonçalves' side now stand just one game away from the showpiece clash as the southern African side aim to retain their COSAFA Cup crown.
On the other hand, Madagascar also emerged as the group winners from Group C. They beat Tanzania 1-0 in their opening game, courtesy of a strike from Toky Rakotondraibe in the opening stanza. Eswatini managed to hold them to a 1-1 draw in their next game, but it didn't stop the Barea from progressing, as four points from two games was enough.
Now into the semi-finals, it's their joint-best performance in the competition since 2015 when the island side achieved third place. Ten years on, Madagascar will be aiming to go one better this time around.
