What’s the story?

According to various reports, Liberian forward Ansumana Kromah was forced to play through injury during his time at his former club, Mohun Bagan. Apparently, he and Haitian forward Sony Norde both sustained injuries in the match against Shilling Lajong at Barasat Stadium. However, while Norde was rested, Kromah had to take the field in the next match itself.

In case you didn’t know…

Kromah, who signed for Bagan before the start of this season’s Calcutta Football League (CFL), was not being able to match expectations in ongoing the I-League. After Bagan’s narrow defeat to Minerva last week, a match in which Kromah missed a penalty, the forward parted ways with the club.

The heart of the matter

Kromah revealed that although he wanted to play in an advanced striker position, a role he had excelled in previously, the coach asked him to play behind Aser Pierrick Dipanda Dicka in a more supporting role. That had an impact on his performances and was the reason for the lack of goals.

He also pointed at Dicka for being responsible for the overall failure of the team saying that the forward was not fit enough to score goals from open play.

Kromah realised that the club wanted to release him following a discussion with the club officials who were not too happy with him missing the penalty against Minerva. So, he decided to part ways with the club.

What’s next?

Kromah is now a free agent and it remains to be seen if any of the I-League or ISL clubs make a move for him.

Author’s take

While it may be true that Kromah was forced to play through injury and also, in a withdrawn position, there is no arguing that his performances have not been quite up to the mark in the I-League. Fans expected more of him, his coach expected more of and he just could not deliver.
