Anthony Martial and Jamie Vardy are the Premier League's fastest players
Manchester United rookie, Anthony Martial, and Leicester and English revelation, Jamie Vardy, are the Premier League's fastest players for the season, a study has found.
EA Sports' Player Performance Index – a tool that monitors and measure multiple criteria of Premier League footballers - has found that the record-breaking Vardy and young Martial have clocked the fastest sprint in the league this season.
Both the players have clocked a whopping 22 miles per hour burst; Vardy did so in Leicester's 2-1 win over West Ham while Martial did so in United's recent 6 goal thriller against Newcastle United.
Manchester United published the findings on their official website: "The identity of United's fastest player has been debated among the first-team squad for the last 12 months with Chris Smalling, Antonio Valencia, Luke Shaw, Ashley Young and Wayne Rooney all among the leading contenders.
"Yet that debate was eventually put to rest when the captain was clocked at 35 kilometres per hour during the 3-1 win over Aston Villa in April 2015.
"Interestingly, Rooney's figure from last campaign equates to 21.74 mph and that is, of course, just slightly slower than Martial's top speed registered against the Magpies."
Jamie Vardy's teammate, Jeffrey Schlupp, is not far behind having clocked 21.9 miles per hour and he is closely followed by a tied-trio of Tottenham right-back, Kyle Walker, Liverpool's young Divock Origi and Newcastle's left-back Paul Dummett who all peaked at 21.8 miles per hour.
The usual suspects including Arsenal's Theo Walcott, United's Antonia Valencia and Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge failed to make the list given injuries to the latter two and a different position for the former Southampton man.
