Anthony Martial receives high praise from Manchester United team-mates after Derby performance
Anthony Martial’s recent performance against Derby county has come under the spotlight after he assisted both of Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata’s goals. The youngster made headlines when he arrived as the moist expensive teenager in the world after United shelled out £36 million for the forward, but the youngster has justified his price tag with impressive performances throughout the season, his most recent one coming in the Emirates FA Cup last night.
This has led to several people showering praise on the youngster with United players and the manager leading the way. After the FA Cup clash, Michael Carrick said Martial is ‘unplayable’ referring to his dismantling of Derby’s defense. The pacey Frenchman ran riot against Derby’s defenders contributing with two assists after United overcame the Rams 3-1 to advance to the fifth round.
Carrick praised his teammate saying, “Anthony was fantastic, but he has that ability. He’s shown that from day one since his debut against Liverpool, when he scored.”
“We have to realise how good he is and can’t expect everything from him all the time. But, when he’s in that kind of form, he’s pretty much unplayable, so it’s nice to have him playing for us.”
Juan Mata who was one of the beneficiaries of the Martial’s playmaking also was full of admiration saying, “I'm always really impressed with him. He does a lot of good things. He can beat opponents one against one, score goals or play it back to people like he did for me and our third goal.I really enjoy playing with him, doing one-twos and making chances. He has unbelievable potential. He has to keep calm, which he is doing, and show that kind of form in every game.”
Belgium’s Marouane Fellaini also lauded the 20-year-old but threw caution to the wind saying, “He is young and has to keep going, learn every day and he will be a good player. He is good, has a lot of quality, he must train hard and keep going because next season will be more difficult because the Premier League will know him by then and be ready.”
Louis Van Gaal says Anthony Martial will become a Manchester United legend
Louis Van Gaal predicts Martial will become a household name in years to come at Old Trafford. “He started not so good, I think, but I said that to him and after the first 20 minutes he came into the match and he was fabulous” said the 64-year-old manager.
"I am very happy that he is a Manchester United player because I think he shall be a great player for Manchester United for a long time”. Martial has scored nine goals and assisted five for the Red Devils since making his switch from Monaco. He will be looking to add to that tally when Manchester United welcome Stoke in the Premier League.
