Marco Silva was sacked by Everton on Thursday after 18 months in charge. The Portuguese was relieved of his duties following his side's 5-2 defeat to Liverpool. The Merseyside club took this drastic step after the club fell into the relegation zone with just 14 points out of 15 games played so far.

Silva's departure was announced in a brief statement by Everton, which also said that Duncan Ferguson, will take temporary charge for the league game against Chelsea on Saturday.

According to Dominic King of Daily Mail, Vitor Pereira and Carlo Ancelotti are the front-runners to take over the helm at Goodison Park. It was reported that David Moyes was also linked to the job, but the fact he has not been appointed yet shows that some people within the Merseyside club have reservations about appointing their former manager.

Ancelotti, who is currently in charge of SSC Napoli, is also being vied as an ideal candidate by Arsenal to succeed Unai Emery following his sacking. Meanwhile, Shanghai SIPG's manager Pereira is also one of the candidates to take over the job. Moreover, it is reported that the English club are set to hold talks with him regarding the vacant managerial position.
