Arsenal and Chelsea combined XI

Goalkeeper: Wojciech Szczesny

The Polish stopper gets the nod ahead of Petr Cech, who has been ailing for some time, as Szczesny has improved his game massively to finally make the number one spot at Arsenal his own after a few seasons of uncertainty.

Last weeks mauling at City was simply a freak result for Szczesny, with the six conceded simply taking his average concession over one per game, while his saves per goal is still an impressive 2.12 and he boasts a distribution success of 68%, with only three other ‘keepers in the league managing better.

Right-Back: Bacary Sagna

Sagna comes in at right-back, despite his future being somewhat unclear, the Frenchman has won 63% of his aerial duels, made 53 clearances and created 11 chances for team-mates at the other end of the pitch to become a key player for Arsene Wenger’s side.

Centre-Back: Per Mertesacker

The Gentle Giant lines up in the centre of defence, having been one of the stand out defenders in this Premier League campaign.

The German has won a whopping 34 aerial duels against opponents this season and made 71 clearances at the back. Two goals at the other end of the pitch gives Arsenal an extra outlet in the offensive third as well, having finally embraced the importance of set-pieces.

Centre-Back: John Terry

He may not be assured of a new contract at Chelsea just yet, but Terry still earns his place in this team, as he is still one of the finest centre-backs in England on his day.

He’s made 118 clearances and 11 blocks already this season, while winning 56 headers against opponents and scoring two goals at the other end of the pitch having fought off competition for a starting berth from Gary Cahill and David Luiz.

Left-Back: Kieran Gibbs

Kieran Gibbs completes our back four, as he has overcome an injury-plagued career to date to start all but two of Arsenal’s league games this season, leaving January signing Nacho Monreal kicking his heels on the bench.

He has won half of his tackles this season and laid on five chances for team-mates, while he has made an impressive 32 interceptions to thwart opposition attacks.
