Reports: Arsenal and Chelsea 'in talks' for surprise swap deal

Arsenal v Chelsea - Premier League
Arsene Wenger and Antonio Conte

What’s the story?

Chelsea and Arsenal have begun talks regarding a stunning swap deal according to Daily Star. The English publication claims that The Blues have offered David Luiz to the Gunner in exchange for Olivier Giroud.

The Daily Star report claims that Arsene Wenger is keen on bringing the Brazilian defender to Arsenal and was ready to make a bid for him last month. They claim that Chelsea made the first move and enquired about taking the French striker on loan but with interest for Michy Batshuayi coming from Dortmund, they made a bid to sign Giroud on a permanent deal.

In case you didn’t know…

Arsenal have agreed a deal with Borussia Dortmund to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gabon striker is set to cost £60 million in principle according to Sky Sports.

However, BVB are not willing to complete the deal before a replacement is found. BILD reports suggest that Michy Batshuayi is their top target and they have begun talks to sign him.

The German publication also suggests that Giroud rejected a move to Dortmund as he wants to stay in London. Now a move to Chelsea is on for the striker.

Rumour probability: 5/10

David Luiz and Antonio Conte had a fall out in September but it only came to light in November. The Brazilian defender was dropped in favour of Christensen and has since then made only a handful of appearances.

Don Balon claim that Real Madrid are keen on signing the defender if they fail to land Leonardo Bonucci. Arsenal will need to convince Luiz and offer him a better contract than Madrid if they want to sign him.

Author’s Take

Swapping Luiz for Giroud would be a win-win situation for all parties involved. The players will get to play more and the clubs will get the players they need without paying anything.
