Arsenal consider a bid for Benfica winger Eduardo Salvio
Benfica’s winger Eduardo Salvio has been targeted by a number of top flight clubs and Arsenal are the latest club to join the chase according to The Daily Express.
Both Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur have targeted Salvio this summer, but to warn them off Benfica have placed a £34million (€40m) price tag on the winger. The Gunners have also been long-term admirers of the Argentine midfielder and they may turn their attentions to signing him in a quest to sign a big name star.
Pressure is mounting at the Emirates as Arsenal have a huge transfer fund, but the players they have been linked with look set to sign for another club. The Gunners are also keeping an eye on another Benifica winger Nicolas Gaitan.
Last month, comments from Salvio’s agent, Agustin Jimenez, suggested a move away was a possibility. Jimenez told O Jogo “At the moment, his future is undecided. We need to speak with Benfica and to discuss the options. There is interest out there this summer from clubs in England and Italy and I believe they have had contact with Benfica. After a big season it is normal that significant clubs will be interested. Now the decision is in the hands of Benfica. Salvio is content at the club but he is open to the possibility of a move.”
Salvio became Benfica’s record signing last summer when he moved from Atletico Madrid to Lisbon for €13.5million after a successful loan stint, so there are doubts whether they’ll let him leave.
