Arsenal and England forward out for the season, will miss World Cup
Arsenal and England have been dealt a major blow, as star Theo Walcott is likely to face up to 6 months on the sidelines due to a cruciate injury he sustained in the FA Cup third round clash against bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates.
Although the 24-year old was stretchred off, he felt little pain, which might have eased the worries of Arsene Wenger. However, an official scan revealed the French manager’s worst nightmare.
The winger hit the ground running after missing the start of the season due to injury, and had provided the spark the Gunners so desperately needed at a time when their season threatened to take a nose dive.
He joins a long list of names on the treatment table at the Emirates including all three recognised strikers Olivier Giroud, Niklas Bendtner and Yaya Sanogo. The manager is left to rue his misfortune as Arsenal’s title hopes rest on a knife-edge.
On the national front, Roy Hodgson might be left threateningly light on the right side of midfield, as he plots a ruse to turn the England football team’s fortunes around at the Brazil World Cup 2014. With the likes of Raheem Sterling and Andros Townsend, the manager has talent at his disposal, but very little experience for the biggest stage of them all.
The World Cup has dodged the unfortunate former Southampton prodigy, who despite being named in the squad in 2006, only warmed the benches, and in 2010, when he was ignored altogether by Fabio Capello.
His father Don said: ‘Theo is gutted. He couldn’t believe it and I think he was still in shock when he told me. Now you wonder if he is destined never to play at a World Cup.’
Theo Walcott has recieved heart warming support from his Arsenal team mates.
Gutted for Theo, he’ll come back stronger after this. Been fantastic for us so far this season. Have a speedy recovery mate
