Rumour: Arsenal linked with Southampton star Morgan Schneiderlin as Frenchman wants Champions League football

Morgan Schneiderlin: The Frenchman impressed all and sundry in his first two seasons in the EPL

Southampton star Morgan Schneiderlin has claimed that he wants to play Champions League football, alerting Arsenal to his situation.

The French midfielder, who has been a revelation for the Saints in the Premier League could be one of many players leaving the club this summer as a mass exodus looks on the cards.

Arsenal are thought to be on the lookout for new central midfielder and apparently Schneiderlin is high up on Arsene Wenger’s list.

Southampton finished in the top half but with a whole host of stars set to leave, Schneiderlin has made his intentions of playing football at an elite level clear.

He explained: “For my progress and my visibility, it would be better to play for a club who play in the Champions League.

“I know there is a lot of speculation, but I still have three years on my contract, it does not depend on me. We’ll see in the coming weeks.”

The 24-year-old has been a key player in Mauricio Pochettino’s system at Southampton and would fit right into Wenger’s 4-2-3-1 formation as a deep central midfielder as part of the ’2′.
