Rumour: Arsenal face competition from Premier League clubs for Toulouse star Serge Aurier
Arsenal are facing competition from two unnamed Premier League clubs for the signing of Toulouse star Serge Aurier, according to the Daily Mail.
The 21-year-old full-back has been linked to the Emirates for a number of weeks now, even stretching into the latter stages of last season, as Bacary Sagna is all set to join Manchester City on a free.
Sagna, 31, ran down his contract at Arsenal this year to force a move elsewhere after years of frustration at not winning a trophy. In the end, he left on a high, lifting the FA Cup after beating Hull City at Wembley. He is all set to sign for Arsenal’s top four rivals, City, forcing Arsene Wenger into the transfer market.
It is understood that Aurier is prime target to replace Sagna this summer with the Ivory Coast international out on duty with his country, preparing for the World Cup.
Due to Aurier’s young age and superb performances in Ligue 1 last season, it is possible he could turn out to eventually be an upgrade on Sagna. However, Arsenal face competition from Premier League rivals who are unnamed right now.
Despite their strong interest and heavy links, it is believed that Arsenal have not yet made contact with Toulouse or Aurier about signing for the Gunners this summer. This could be something that bites them back if they miss out on the signing due to taking too long.
