Arsenal reportedly set to make £20m bid for Morgan Schneiderlin
Arsene Wenger is set to make a £20 million bid for Southampton star Morgan Schneiderlin, with Wenger keen to bring him in before Napoli and Tottenham Hotspur beat him to it, according to the Express.
Wenger has been sending scouts to keep tabs on the Frenchman who has been an integral member of the Southampton squad since getting promoted to the Premier League. Originally a centre-back, Schneiderlin has adapted to a central defensive-midfield position and has excelled alongside Jack Cork and Sean Davis.
The 24-year-old will require a fee believed to be in the region of £20 million and after the departure of Mauricio Pochettino, Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert, Southampton are reluctant to offload for anything less.
Napoli and Tottenham Hotspur are both keen on bringing Schneiderlin to their clubs and the latter are willing to match Arsenal’s bid in-order to pull off a deal. Schneiderlin is currently on World Cup duty in Brazil with Didier Deschamps’ team, so any talks will be done after the tournament concludes.
However, Rafa Benitez’s Napoli side are only willing to offer £12 million for the Southampton midfielder.
