Arsenal reportedly set to make a move for Schalke striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar

Huntelaar scored 12 in 18 games for Schalke during the previous Bundesliga season, the highest goals-per-game record (0.67) in the division.

Arsenal are set to make a move for highly-rated striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar after talks about his future seemed to hit some rocks, according to theMetro.

Arsene Wenger is keen to bring in another striker after seeing Olivier Giroud struggle with fatigue last season, after leading his Arsenal side for the majority of the season.

The Gunners relied on the Frenchman heavily on times and had to call on Yaya Sanogo when Giroud seemed out of sorts. Arsenal have been chasing Alexis Sanchez for the last few weeks but he has now turned one eye to Schalke striker Huntelaar as an option.

The former Ajax, Real Madrid and AC Milan would be a cheaper option than the likes of Mario Balotelli and Sanchez, and his prolific goalscoring record makes him an ideal candidate to compliment Giroud in north London.

Huntelaar, who scored the Netherlands’ winner against Mexico during the World Cup round-of-16 recently, is 30-years-old and has one year left on his current contract in Germany. The Dutch international is not ready to renew his deal in Gelsenkirchen and wants to move to another club to win trophies before he calls time on his career.

Arsenal also want to call upon Joel Campbell, whose future is still unclear at the moment.
