Reports: Arsenal make surprise £30 million bid for Chelsea superstar
What's the story?
Arsenal superstars like Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez have been linked with high profile exits in the January transfer window, but now latest reports from the Daily Express claim that Wenger is ready to do some shopping of his own.
With Mustafi and Mertesacker struggling this season, Wenger has reportedly turned his attention towards out of favour Chelsea centre-back David Luiz. The Brazilian has been left out of Antonio Conte's squad in the last few weeks and although the Italian has insisted that it is because of fitness issues, sources claim that all is not well between Conte and Luiz at Chelsea and the 30-year-old could be set for an exit in the January transfer window.

In case you didn't know...
One of the best ball-playing centre-backs in world football at the moment, David Luiz has struggled with a knee injury for the entirety of this season. Also, his attitude was also called into question by Antonio Conte and it only looks like a matter of time before the Brazilian exits Stamford Bridge once again.
Arsenal, on the other hand, are keen to strengthen their defence and with Luiz's obvious skill on the ball, Wenger is desperate to integrate the 30-year-old Brazilian into his starting line-up.
The heart of the matter
With the World Cup coming up, Luiz will be keen to get some regular playing time to cement his place in the Brazilian national team. With young Christensen looking really impressive for Conte, Luiz might have a hard time getting into Conte's starting XI.
A £30 million fee also seems pretty agreeable although, the only thing holding the deal back might be Chelsea's reluctance to sell to a direct rival like Arsenal. However, Matic was sold to Manchester United in the summer and Arsenal are confident that they too can sign David Luiz for the right price in the January transfer window.

Author's take
There has been intense speculation about David Luiz's future with many reports claiming that the Chelsea board have decided to sell him in January. Real Madrid are also reportedly interested in the Brazilian and it will do Chelsea good if they sell the 30-year-old to Madrid instead of selling him to their direct rivals in the Premier League, Arsenal.
