Arsenal vs Tottenham - 5 players who would be perfect for the other teamĀ
Tottenham Hotspur has been one of the top sides in the English Premier League for close to three seasons and despite the setback against their bitter rivals in the North London derby last Saturday, they remain in line for a title challenge.
Arsenal, on the other hand, has an excellent squad and have generally underachieved considering the sort of players they have at their disposal. When things click, they often look unstoppable and last Saturday was probably one of those days.
Arsenal is currently 1 point behind Spurs and would like to use the derby win as a springboard for an assault on the title.
Combined Xis have been made and re-made over the past few weeks, but what is just as interesting is to see which players from either side could end up being perfect additions to the other side.
#5 Toby Alderweireld (Spurs)
Arsenal's central defence is a bit thin when one comes to think of it.
Per Mertesacker is no longer a regular player and although he can come up with top class performances when called upon (FA Cup final against Chelsea last year, for instance), he is still only a fallback option these days.
German defender Shkodran Mustafi is really the only quality partner for Frenchman Laurent Koscielny and beyond that, the club has Rob Holding, who is still prone to errors.
Hence, the presence of a central defender of the caliber of Spurs' Belgian defender Toby Alderweireld would be a good addition to the Arsenal squad and with Koscielny, he would probably go on to form one of the best defensive combinations in the league.
According to football statistics website Squawka, Alderweireld had a total performance score of 701 in the 2016-17 season, while other than Koscielny (998) none of the Arsenal defenders come close.
Alderweireld's team-mate Jan Vertonghen has a score of 1050.
