Arsenal Transfer News: Julian Draxler to join Paris Saint-Germain ahead of the Gunners
Arsenal are said to be disappointed in the race to sign German's FIFA World Cup sensation, Julian Draxler. The 22-year-old who has long been linked with the Gunners is set to put pen to paper on a deal that sees him switch Wolfsburg for the Parisian side, Paris Saint-Germain, report The Mirror.
Draxler has a fan in Arsene Wenger but the Frenchman is said to be reluctant to sign the German – given the club value him at an eye-popping €75 million. The German only joined Wolfsburg last summer from Ruhr club Schalke but has since been unsettled and is angling for a move away from Dieter Hecking's side.
It is still unclear how much Paris Saint-Germain are willing to pay for Draxler – and if whether they've activated his release clause but the news that is clear is that the Gunners are no more in the race to sign him and that Wenger is said to lose out on another talent he's long praised.
Arsenal are on the lookout for a striker before the transfer window down but seemed to have only made progress in signing Valencia's Shkodran Mustafi – a 23-year-old centre-back to aid with the likes of Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny, and Gabriel Bautista who are all out injured or unfit to play for Arsenal.
The Gunners did bid for Olympique Lyonnaise's Alexander Lacazette but the club released a press release informing the press and the North Londoners that the €35 million amount was insufficient and almost insulting.
Arsene Wenger admitted in his press conference earlier this week that he's still in the market for a player who will definitely improve the squad – irrespective of position on the field reigniting rumours of the Gunners having approached Champions Leicester City for their prized possession Riyad Mahrez.
