Arsene Wenger admits he doesn't know if Arsenal are in the title race
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admits he doesn't know if his club are still in the title race following their thrilling 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspurs. The Gunners took the lead through Aaron Ramsey before Francis Coquelin saw red for two silly yellow cards. Goals from Toby Alderweireld and Harry Kane gave Tottenham the lead before Alexis Sanchez equalised for Wenger's men.
Leicester City currently have an 8-point lead over Arsenal and a 5-point lead against Tottenham. Wenger is unsure what could happen in the upcoming games.
"I don't know because I don't know what to say anymore about that. Everybody drops points so let's see what happens over the weekend," he said.
"I think we have to take encouragement from our performance today and we have to produce that until the end of the season then we might have a chance."
Arsenal beat Leicester two weeks ago placing them in prime position for the title run-in that was to follow but have failed to win a game since then. Asked if he thought this was Arsenal's best shot at winning a Premier League title, Wenger said, "Maybe, yes. Last year we had no chance but now I don't know."
"We are in a position where we not only depend on our own results but the results of teams like Leicester."
Arsenal have been beaten by Manchester United and Swansea in consecutive Premier League games drawing a lot of criticism from former players and critics alike. Speaking about the match, captain Per Mertesacker, says his team don't bother about the criticism and simply focus on the games in hand.
"(For) a team with low confidence and no belief, we played pretty well today. We don't need that (criticism). It's nonsense. We just concentrate on ourselves and that's the only way to compete and win games."
