Arsene Wenger thinks Real Madrid are favourites to win the Champions League

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has tipped Real Madrid to win the Champions League, claiming they are more dangerous than Bayern Munich.

Arsenal are trailing 2-0 to Munich after the first leg of their last-16 Champions League match played at the Emirates a fortnight ago. It was a miserable night for Wenger who saw his goalkeeper, Wojciech Szczesny, sent off and Mesut Ozil missed a first half penalty before conceding two second half goals.

Bayern are the defending European champions and are currently 20 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga and are yet to lose a single domestic match. In fact, the only competitive defeat Pep Guardiola has suffered as Bayern manager was to Manchester City in the final group game of the Champions League when the Germans had already qualified for the knockout stage.

That has not fazed Wenger’s thinking, though, as he believes Bayern are ‘less dangerous’ than Real Madrid who boast the tournament’s 11-goal top scorer, Cristiano Ronaldo.

He told Eurosport: “Last year, Ribery and Robben were playing together and they were in great shape, so Bayern were really powerful going forward,

“This year they still have an awful lot of possession, but I think they’re less dangerous – I think we saw that at Arsenal. Even though we were playing with 10 players (following the sending off of Wojciech Szczesny) they didn’t really create an awful lot.”

He added: “Real Madrid right now are on a par with anything. For me, this is the team with the best balance.”
