Arsene Wenger promises new arrivals at Arsenal, says Luis Suarez deal is dead

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has promised new arrivals at the club before the transfer window closes

Arsene Wenger promised that there would be new signings at Arsenal, after the Gunners put one foot in the Champions League group stages by winning 0-3 away at Fenerbahce in the first leg of the qualifier.

Wenger will now focus on the transfer market as his side all but secured progression to the Champions League group stages.

The Arsenal boss missed out on striker Gonzalo Higuain earlier in the transfer window, and has now admitted that the North London club will not make an improved offer for striker Luis Suarez.

“(There is) absolutely no chance of that,” said Wenger when asked about Suarez.

Wenger stressed the importance of strengthening, especially in midfield, as Mikel Arteta, Abou Diaby and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all out injured.

Recent reports have linked Arsenal with Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye and Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema.

“We tried to bring one in, but we are working on that. You have to understand there is still a long way to go,” added Wenger.

“The transfer market starts for me now and a lot of activity will happen between now and September 2.

“From August 21 until September 2 you have 12 days, so a lot will happen. It starts now.

“It is like a poker game. People hold their cards as long as possible and see what is happening out there. In the end, they go for decisions.”
