Arsene Wenger and other footballing personalities lent their voice to the London Tube system

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is all set to voice announcements at the London Tube stations in a bid to celebrate Poppy Day, the Mirror reported. Poppy Day or Remembrance Day is observed on 11 November in most countries to recall the end of hostilities of World War I on that date in the year 1918.

Hostilities formally ended "at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month", in accordance with the armistice signed by representatives of Germany and the Entente between 5:12 and 5:20 that morning.

The event is set up in aid of the Royal British Legion's annual appeal and sees the Arsenal gaffer make the announcements at Arsenal, Holloway Road and Finsbury Park tube stations. Numerous other footballers have lent their voices to the campaign and the commuters can hear their announcements at stations near to their respective stadiums.

The list includes numerous high profile footballers like, Chelsea captain John Terry, Spurs duo Harry Kane and Ryan Mason, QPR's Charlie Austin and boss Chris Ramsey, and West Ham's Mark Noble.

John Terry will be heard at Fulham Broadway, Earl's Court and West Brompton. Harry Kane and Ryan Mason will fill the loudspeakers of Tottenham Court Road, White Hart Lane, Seven Sisters, Tottenham Hale whereas Mark Noble’s voice will feature at West Ham, Upton Park, East Ham, and Plaistow.

Two Circle line Tube trains and nine London buses will be wrapped in the poppy livery. All London underground, London over ground and DLR trains will also feature poppies on the front and back of every train.

King's Cross, Canary Wharf, Tottenham Court Road, Liverpool Street, Westminster and Waterloo Tube stations will also be decorated in the poppy design in support of the appeal. Popular stations on the DLR will also be partially branded in the famous poppies.

Military bands will entertain commuters and station visitors at selected locations and a giant poppy will greet visitors to King's Cross railway station. Waterloo railway station will host a poppy installation.

In recognition of the superlative efforts made, London’s Transport Commissioner, Mike Brown MVO, said: "We are proud to support The Royal British Legion's annual London Poppy Day appeal in honour of the 4,500 transport workers, and all others from across the country, who have given their lives in both World Wars and other conflicts.

“Our transport network has once again been covered in the eye-catching poppy livery and customers travelling around the Capital will be entertained by famous voices making some special announcements."
