AS Roma invite Diego Maradona to watch their game against Napoli
Serie A club AS Roma have invited Argentina legend Diego Maradona to be the guest of honor during the clash between Roma and his former club Napoli. ESPN reports.
The 52-year-old will be in Italy for some commitments in Milan but Roma have offered to hire a private jet and a car so that Maradona can attend the match without any hassles.
“It’s true, and it’s a great sporting sign from a great club to invite Maradona to the Olimpico,” Maradona’s solicitor Angelo Pisani told Radio Crc. “Even if Maradona could give Napoli a boost by being present, Roma have invited him and that’s an honourable sign in the world of football.
“Roma have offered to organise everything, from a car to a plane, but time is going to be tight and we cannot know today if he will accept or not, but Diego is delighted by the organisation and the invite from Roma, even if he would be a rival for the Giallorossi.”
The former Argentina international may refuse the offer, but Pisani says that he could change his mind.
“We all know the Pibe well and he has an incredible fantast, so it would not be a surprise if he decided to go to Naples to eat a pizza,” he added.
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis intents to invite Pope Francais for the occasion.
“I will officially invite him to the San Paolo when he has the time,” De Laurentiis said on his official Twitter account. I hope he can come for Napoli-Juventus or Napoli-Arsenal.”
