Banned chips for players at Manchester United as I felt it wasnt good for their diet: Moyes
Former Manchester United manager David Moyes has revealed that he did ban players from eating chips during his 10-month tenure at Old Trafford. The 51-year-old was appointed as United boss on a six-year contract deal after Sir Alex Ferguson called time on an illustrious 27-year reign as club manager.
But after a troublesome maiden season, he was sacked by the club in April last year and United legend Ryan Giggs was appointed manager for the final few games.
Moyes said that he felt chips wouldn’t be good for the diet of some of the players and hence had to take it off their menu.
"Yes, I did ban chips. It was because a couple of players were overweight and I didn't think chips were good for their diet,” Moyes told FourFourTwo in an interview.
He further added that he was left disappointed at the way the fans of his former club Everton booed him when he made a return to Goodison Pak as Red Devils manager last year.
United lost that fixture 2-0 and the match also turned out to be his last game as the manager of the club. However, he did reveal that he had a great affection towards The Toffees and he did everything that he could to get them competing with the top teams once again.
"I wasn't surprised, because I know how supporters react and I had left their club. But I was disappointed,” he said. “I got Everton competing at the top end of the league with a mid-table budget. I gave everything I could in trying to make Everton the best I could.”
”It was a long process but we did it - my staff, my players and others at the club. We had some glorious nights at Goodison and the fans were superb. I've got huge affection for Everton, it was my life for over a decade,” the current Real Sociedad boss added.
