Rumour: Barcelona and Real Madrid ponder meeting Luis Suarez’s release clause

Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo believe that both Barcelona and Real Madrid are preparing bids for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez and are willing to pay £68 million in order to do so.

Suarez scored 31 goals for Liverpool in last season’s Premier League as the Anfield side finished second behind Manchester City. He had been heavily linked with a move away from the club last summer, with Arsenal interested in a move for the <Uruguay World Cup-- forward, but signed a new contract midway through the season.

However, Mundo Deportivo believe that that contract contains a release clause of £68 million and that both Real Madrid and Barcelona are willing to meet it.

Real Madrid have long been linked with a summer move for Suarez, to complete an expensively assembled frontline with Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo, but they will now reportedly face competition for the 27-year-old.

Barcelona are also believed to be in the running, with a move to the Nou Camp potentially pitting Suarez against Lionel Messi and Neymar in a battle for attacking roles.
