Barcelona are past their prime - Oliver Kahn
Former Germany and Bayern Munich goalkeeper Oliver Kahn says that Barcelona, and Spanish football, are past their prime and added that German teams have no one to fear in European football this year, according to a report on Football Espana.
Last season saw two German teams and two Spanish teams match up in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals and German sides Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich beat Spanish sides Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively to set up an all German final where Bayern Munich won the Champions League.
Former Bayern captain Kahn believes Barcelona, in particular, will find it difficult to rediscover the winning streak they had under Pep Guardiola – who now manages Bayern Munich.
“I believe that Barcelona are past their prime,” Kahn has told TV Movie this week.
“There is no team in Europe for who a German team must have fear.
“I think that Bayern have many intelligent players and can rise to the challenge [of retaining the Champions League].
“The continued success of Bayern always relies on change and new ideas.”
