Barcelona froward Neymar happy after proving critics of MSN trio wrong
Barcelona forward Neymar has expressed his delight in proving the doubters wrong about him, Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi not gelling well together, the club’s official website confirmed. Neymar has admitted that the ‘MSN trio’ was always going to be a success at the Camp Nou.
When Suarez made a switch to Barcelona from Liverpool in 2014, some expected the striker to upset the balance of the team. The Uruguayan's antics on the field were not appreciated by many and in last year's World Cup campaign he was served with a four-month ban for biting Italy's Giorgio Chiellini.
Much to everyone's surprise, Suarez has been on his best behaviour ever since he signed for the Blaugrana side and he had a stunning debut season. Along with Messi and Neymar, they combined to score 122 goals in all competitions which helped the Catalan club to the treble.
It was the same case for the Brazil captain who joined Barcelona from Santos in 2013. There were doubts as to whether Neymar and Messi would gel along together on the field. But the 23-year-old has revealed that he was always confident things would work out well on the pitch for them.
“Some said we wouldn't get along well, but I knew they were wrong,” Neymar said in the interview. “I think we surprised everyone. Before I came to Barcelona, they said I would be fighting with Leo and with other players as well.
“I knew that was not going to happen because those sort of things don't affect me. Messi has helped me a lot since I joined Barcelona. And we have a friendship both on and off the pitch with Suarez. We are really happy with how things are going on the pitch.”
I want to make history in Barcelona: Neymar
Barca were unstoppable in their treble-winning campaign last term. However, it hasn’t gone according to plan for them this season. After suffering a defeat to Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish Super Cup, they are currently sitting fourth in the La Liga table after two losses in seven games already.
The Brazillian star has admitted it was always going to be challenging to emulate the form from last season, but he has remained determined to add more trophies to the club’s cabinet.
“We had a great season winning the treble, and this [season] is more difficult. We have to do more than we have been to beat our opponents,” he said.
“I want to continue making history in Barcelona; I want to win more titles.”
