Barcelona in pursuit of Pepe Reina?
Players in Barcelona are reportedly pushing for the signing of Liverpool goalkeeper, Pepe Reina, to replace their current goalkeeper Victor Valdes.
Barcelona stars Xavi, Andres Iniesta and team captain Carlos Puyol are pushing the club to bring their teammate back to Camp Nou, the place where he started his professional career. Victor Valdes, the current keeper for Barcelona, has his contract with the club ending in 18 months, and Reina looks to be replacement. The team was shocked to hear the Valdes would sign a new deal.
Reports suggest that the club will not force Valdes to stay. After having served the club for eight seasons, Barcelona will let him leave in the summer.
Livepool may also let go of their goalkeeper in the summer if they get a good offer. A possible swap of the two players between the clubs cannot be ruled out either.
A close friend of Reina has told sources that he, Spain’s No 3 goalkeeper and their unofficial mascot for their last three competitions, said that he was very happy at the Merseyside club but a return to Barcelona would be like “going home”.
Reina, a product of the Barcelona youth academy, made his debut for the Catalan giants in 1997 for their youth squad. He was promoted to the first squad in 2000. He was loaned to Villareal and later signed for Liverpool in 2005.
