Reports: Barcelona's sporting director Robert Fernandez seen scouting David Alaba and Saul Niguez

David Alaba and Saul Niguez are two of the game’s brightest talents

Barcelona’s sporting director Robert Fernandez has been heavily involved in the club’s transfer dealings this summer and it looks like Fernandez has already spotted Barcelona’s next two targets in the transfer window.

While Barcelona were taking on German side Borussia Monchengladbach, Fernandez was at the Vicente Calderon, soaking up the action between Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Reports from Sport claim that Fernandez was keeping an eye on several players although David Alaba and Saul Niguez are said to have caught his attention the most. With Mathieu not enjoying the full confidence of Luis Enrique, David Alaba might just be the signing required to strengthen the Barcelona squad in the left-back position.

Saul Niguez, meanwhile is capable of playing in multiple positions across the pitch and Luis Enrique will be thrilled to have such a versatile player in the Barcelona squad.

Barcelona battle from goal down to beat Monchengladbach 2-1

Barcelona battled back from a goal down and scored twice in the second half to beat hosts Borussia Moenchengladbach 2-1 in their Champions League Group C match on Wednesday despite the absence of the injured Lionel Messi.

Second-half goals from substitute Arda Turan and Gerard Pique gave the Spaniards their second win in two group matches to top the standings, after their opening 7-0 demolition of Celtic. The hard-working Germans had taken a surprising lead, scoring against the run of play, with Thorgan Hazard slotting in to complete a quick break in the 34th minute.

The hard-working Germans had taken a surprising lead, scoring against the run of play, with Thorgan Hazard slotting in to complete a quick break in the 34th minute. Barcelona who had the  Argentine Messi missing with a groin injury dominated the game but were made to work hard for the 3 points. With two wins in two, the Catalan outfit now has 6 points.

The hosts, who managed just one shot on target but gave the Spaniards a run for their money, have zero, having lost both matches so far and ended an 11-match winning streak at home in all competitions.

Barcelona have not hesitated to spend big in the recent times, having bought in Samuel Umtiti, Lucas Digne, Andre Gomes, Denis Suarez and Paco Alcacer this summer. David Alaba and Saul Niguez will undoubtedly strengthen the already formidable Barcelona side and Robert Fernandez will be hoping to tie up deals for the duo soon.
