Barcelona's revenue to pass the half billion mark

Barcelona

Spanish giants Barcelona are all set to be the second club in the world to surpass its revenue beyond the half billion mark as the club announced a projected revenue of €509 million for this season.

The rise in revenue will see the Catalans in the exclusive half billion club in which they will be accompanied by rivals Real Madrid.

“This is not a message of triumph, since it is still difficult to manage the club and we have to continue the policy of austerity,” said Toni Freixa, secretary and spokesman for the board.

The club record figures will generate a profit of €36 million after the tax payments. The reason for the boost is believed to be the sponsorship deals and the transfer of Thiago Alcantara to Bayern Munich.

Despite having passed the €500 million, Barcelona still remain behind Real Madrid who generated revenue of €520.9 million which earned Real Madrid the title of world’s richest club.
