Schweinsteiger in action for Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich’s Bastian Schweinsteiger is undoubtedly up there with the best players to have played for Germany and let’s have a look at some his personal facts which you may not be knowing. The genius of a German has been on the scene since 2002 and has never failed to amaze every time he steps on the pitch. Schweinsteiger’s consistent performances, which have led him to be named as one of the best holding midfielders ever, has attracted the attention of several top clubs including Manchester United but the German has been unwavering in his desire to stick with Bayern Munich.

While the World Cup winner’s professional life has wowed millions of die hard football fans, his personal life will blow you away too. But before we get into his personal details allow me to walk you through his rise to the top.

Schweinsteiger, 30, was born on 1st August 1984 in the small town of Kolbermoor which is located to the South East of Munich. The midfielder started playing football at the age of six for FV Oberaudorf before moving to TSV Rosenheim three years later. It was at TSV where he was spotted by Bayern Munich who promptly signed him up in 1998. Bastian quickly progressed through the ranks at Bayern and made his first team debut in the Champions League match against Ligue 1 side RC Lens in November 2002.

Schweinsteiger was originally utilized as a left-back at Bayern before moving to the left wing where he gained fame for his pace and trickery. In 2010 Louis Van Gaal converted the 30-year-old into a holding midfielder, a position that he has since made his own.

Since his debut Schweini has helped Bayern win a plethora of trophies including 7 Bundesliga titles, 7 DFB Pokai’s, 1 Champions League, 1 FIFA Club World Cup along with loads of other silverware. The midfielder’s exploits have helped him gain the affection of a nation along with the nickname of the ‘Midfield Motor’.

Coming to the personal part of this article you’ll be amazed to know that he is an accomplished skier as well as a decent basketball player. In fact Schweini, whose parents own a ski equipment shop in his hometown, almost took up skiing before becoming a full time footballer although he still hits the slopes in his spare time. The midfielder almost made an appearance for Bayern Munich’s basketball team but decided against it due to the risk of an injury.

Schweini has an elder sibling named Tobias who is also a footballer and currently plays for Bayern Munich’s reserve team. The two brothers played against each other back in January 2013 against SpVgg Unterhaching, who has signed Tobias on a five month loan deal.

Schweinsteiger with his girlfriend Sarah

Schweinsteiger is currently in a relationship with model Sarah Brandner who he met in 2007 at a party and are one of Germany’s best known couples.

The midfielder, like any other footballer, keeps his body in shape and stands at Six feet with a weight of 79 kgs along with a shoe size of 10. However his fitness regime hasn’t stopped him from indulging in good food and has been known to dig into salads, turkey chips and a good beef fillet. Basti loves his coffee and is a regular customer of Starbucks. The 30-year-old even took cooking classes from Bayern Munich’s head chef Alfons Schuhbeck.

Schweini is extremely fond of German chancellor Angela Merkel and has met her on a number of occasions. The pair even sat together to watch Germany take on Spain in the finals of Euro 2008, a match which the midfielder sat out due to suspension. Another person the midfielder greatly admires is his former teammate Oliver Kahn. In fact Schweinsteiger and Kahn always sat together in the dressing room.

Schweinsteiger wears size 10 Adidas F50 Adipure boots

Schweinsteiger has sponsorship deals with Adidas, who supply the midfielder with their F50 Adipure boots, Right Guard and Funny Frisch Chips. All these endorsement deals bring in Schweini an estimated £8 million a year.

Schweini is also pretty active on the social media, and you can find him on facebook – https://www.facebook.com/BastianSchweinsteiger and also on Twitter – https://twitter.com/BSchweinsteiger .

As I end this Bastian Schweinsteiger facts article I would like to note that the midfielder is one of the finest in his position and is undoubtedly the current Claude Makelele. He will be irreplaceable to Bayern Munich and German when he decides to hang up his boots. But until then he’ll continue to be the engine for club and country.
