Bayern Munich's Bastian Schweinsteiger to undergo ankle surgery
Bayern Munich were in for a rude shock after it was revealed that Bastian Schweinsteiger would have to undergo a surgery on his right ankle.
With the surgery, the German midfielder will be out for an indefinite period.
Schweinsteiger had undergone a procedure in June which caused him to miss Bayern Munich’s pre-season training. According to team doctor Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt, during check-ups in the past few weeks, they found problems with his with respect to ossification of the right ankle which could lead to tendonitis if not treated.
“The last few weeks have always been very painful for me,” said Bastian Schweinsteiger.
“I tried it yet again, but I am now at a point where surgical intervention can no longer be avoided. I hope that I can be completely free of pain after the surgery and play football again.”
