Bayern Munich chase Real Madrid starlet Martin Odegaard
Bayern Munich are monitoring the situation of highly rated Real Madrid starlet Martin Odegaard. The Norwegian has failed to break through to the Real Madrid first team this season, and the Bavarian giants are interested in tempting him away from the Santiago Bernabeu with a good financial offer.
Bayern Munich’s sporting executive, Matthias Sammer spoke to Sky about Odegaard’s situation, saying “There are always situations in this business where you get signals. And, of course, you keep contact. It was his decision [to join Real] back then, and you have to respect that. He is a good player, he has to bite through.”
Despite claiming that Odegaard’s future ‘is not up for debate’, Sammer ought to be monitoring Odegaard’s situation, since Odegaard has failed to make a single appearance for the Real Madrid senior team this season, having come on as a subsitute in the final La Liga game last season.
Bayern Munich had coveted Odegaard’s signature last season, with CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge saying “Many grooms are waiting on the door step. Maybe we are the best looking groom. Odegaard is obviously a beautiful bride." However, Odegaard opted for Real Madrid
Ancelotti reunion could tempt Odegaard
Carlo Ancelotti was the coach of Real Madrid when Martin Odegaard signed for Real Madrid for a reported 4 million fee. Upon signing the Norwegian said, “It was the best option for the development of my career as much in the sporting sense as personally. It is a dream come true.”
A move to Bayern Munich would represent a reunion with Carlo Ancelotti, who is set to take over from Pep Guardiola after the end of the current season. The Italian manager gave Odegaard his debut in his last game in charge of Los Galacticos, sending on Odegaard in the 58th minute against Getafe.
Odegaard first came to the limelight for a series of stunning performances for Norwegian Tippeligaen side Stromsgodset Toppfotball, setting a record by becoming the youngest player to ever play in the league. Despite his callow years, he was soon called up to the Norwegian national side, almost sending his national side to the 2016 Euros, but losing out to Hungary.
A lack of appearances under Rafa Benitez and Zinedine Zidane could mean that Odegaard could be keen to move and reignite his career by signing for the Bavarian giants, Bayern Munich.
