Bayern Munich director Mathias Sammer unhappy with team's performance
Bayern Munich managed to clinch a 2-0 victory against Hannover yesterday with goals coming from Mario Mandzukic and Franck Ribery, both in the second half. But the victory wasn’t enough to flatter director, Mathias Sammer, as he accused the players of not showing the hunger and motivation to win the match. Sammer was unimpressed by the team’s performance in the first half.
The win against Hannover elevated Bayern’s position to second in the Bundesliga table, two points behind Borussia Dortmund, who destroyed Hamburg FC with a 6-2 victory, keeping their perfect start to the season intact.
Sammer said: “We are playing lethargically at times, playing football without any emotion and just going through the motions. When you are struggling in the first half, then you’ve got to help each other out in the tackles and bring a bit more emotion into play.
“Instead, we are too relaxed and just watch – we’ve won five titles in the last 15 months, Franck Ribery’s been named Best Player in Europe and he’ll probably also win the Ballon d’Or. It’s not that we are not working, just we’re not showing any emotions at all.
“It’s all about Pep. Pep here, Pep there, Pep’s great, Pep’s poor – we’re finding it all great because we’re no longer in the limelight and this affects you subconsciously. We’re all hiding behind the coach.”
