Bayern Munich forced to issue public apology to Adidas
Mario Goetze’s unveiling as a Bayern Munich players has led to a major falling out between sportswear brand Nike and Adidas.
Mario Gotze turned out in a Nike t-shirt at the time of being at the time of being introduced to the German press for the first time as a Bayern player. This act was against the agreement that the club had with their club shirt sponsor Adidas. Adidas not only provide Bayern with their kit, but also own 9.1% stake in the same club.
Adidas spokesperson Oliver Bruggen said, “The pictures from the press conference with Mario Gotze have negatively surprised us. Contractually that is not permissible because it is an official event of Adidas partner Bayern Munich. We have already discussed with Bayern Munich.”
In response, Bayern were contrite.
Bayern media director Markus Horwick said, “These T-shirts have gotten by us in the general hustle and bustle and we regret that very much. We have assured Adidas that this will not happen again.”
