Bayern Munich suffer two more injury blows

Arjen Robben had just returned to action for Bayern Munich after a month on the treatment table

German champions Bayern Munich have confirmed that striker Robert Lewandowski has suffered a broken jaw and winger Arjen Robben has a torn calf muscle. Both injuries should rule out the players for the rest of the season.

Robben had only just returned from injury to come off the bench against Borussia Dortmund but was taken off only minutes later when he went to ground clutching his calf.

Lewandowski who scored Bayern’s only goal of the game clashed with Dortmund goalkeeper Mitchell Langerak in extra time. Having competed their quota of substitutions, Bayern left Lewandowski on the pitch, but he was a notable absentee from Bayern’s penalty takers.

Scans later showed a broken jaw and nose but the duration of his absence is not yet known.

While Bayern have sealed the league title and crashed out of the DFB Cup, they are still in the race for Champions League glory and will go into the semi-finals missing crucial players, including Arjen Robben who has been ruled out for the season.

Bayern already have players including David Alaba, Holger Badstuber and Franck Ribery on the injury list.

Though Lewandowski will also be a doubt for the game, the Polish international took to Twitter to express his desire to return for the first leg on May 6.
