Bayern Munich should have run to Manchester and brought back Bastian Schweinsteiger, says Jose Mourinho

Bastian Schweinsteiger in action for the ‘Red Devils’

Jose Mourinho mocked German club Bayern Munich regarding their comment on Bastian Schweinsteiger who is having a difficult time at Old Trafford. He stated that he expected the ‘Bavarians’ to run back to Manchester and bring the World Cup winner back to Germany. Manchester United had a disappointing show last season as they failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the second time in three seasons.

At the end of the season, Louis van Gaal was sacked despite winning the FA Cup and Jose Mourinho was appointed as the new manager of the Old Trafford club. As per the reports of the Mirror, the Red Devils’ boss said, “I thought, when I read some quotes from people at Bayern Munich, they would run to Manchester to bring him back, but no, that didn’t happen. I’m quite surprised Karl-Heinze Rummennigge is not here to take him back.”

Since his arrival in England in 2015, the former Germa skipper has only played 18 matches for the United outfit and his future is hanging by a thread. When asked about this future at the club, Jose was quick to point the reasons for not accommodating in the first XI.

“I think it’s very difficult to happen. I’m not saying it’s impossible, I’m saying its very difficult because we have made a decision made about Pogba, Herrera, Schneiderlin, Fellaini and Carrick, we have five players for two positions, so it’s very difficult for an opportunity to arise” said Mourinho.

Manchester United has made huge investments in the transfer market this time, with big players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba being roped in for huge amounts. The Red Devils also brought in Eric Bailly in their defence and they started the Premier League campaign with two wins.

Schweinsteiger has not featured for the Manchester United team this season and was demoted to the reserves and is currently training with them. Many have called out Jose Mourinho for the treatment of the German star and it is expected that Schweinsteiger will leave Manchester United in the transfer window.

The German had recently stated that United would be the last club he would be playing in Europe and reports suggest that he could be off to the United States to play in the MLS. It will be interesting to see where the former Bayern Munich star ends up at the end of the window.
