David Beckham says he is “very excited” at the prospect of making his Paris Saint-Germain debut in the biggest match in French football, against Marseille on Sunday night.

The 37-year-old Englishman, who signed for the capital club last month, is expected to feature for the first time in the clash of France’s most bitter rivals.

“I have played in a lot of big matches in my career, games like AC Milan against Inter, Real Madrid against Barcelona, and the (Los Angeles) Galaxy against Chivas,” Beckham told PSG’s official website.

“For me, it is very exciting to play in another very special match.”

The former Manchester United man has been named in a 20-man squad for the game, so there is as yet no guarantee that he will even be on the bench.

Fellow midfielder Thiago Motta will miss the game due to injury, as will Brazilian centre-back Thiago Silva, who has not yet overcome the thigh injury that his sidelined him for more than a month.
