Best FIFA 14 MLS team
Ever since David Beckham’s American venture, other good players from around the world have started plying their trade in the country, and that is precisely why we will take a look at the best FIFA 14 MLS team. Apart from the Soccer fans in the United States, fans around the globe would also want to play the league in the game and you might want to know the best players in each of the positions so that you can possibly have them in your team.
We will go in with a 4-4-2 formation.
Goalkeeper
Julio Cesar (Brazil)
MLS fans are really lucky as they get access to Brazil’s first choice goalkeeper. He will actually be a QPR player though, so you may have to buy him permanently or else he will go back to his original team. He comes on loan to Toronto FC to get match time before the World Cup. He is rated 82 in the game, but won’t grow further in career mode as he will already be 34 years old.
Defenders
Sean Franklin (United States of America)
You will find that there is a shortage of highly rated defenders in the MLS, but you have to make the best use of what’s available. Sean Franklin is the best right back you can get. He is rated just 68 but he can grow in to the 70’s if played regularly for a few seasons. His pace attribute of 87 gives you a huge advantage as he can overlap on the right side and go all the way. He plays for the Los Angeles Galaxy.
Alessandro Nesta (Italy)
It’s always nice to see a familiar name isn’t it? Alessandro Nesta is recognised as one of the greatest defenders of all time, and was part of the team that won the World Cup in 2006. This Italian legend has retired now, but can still be used in the game as he is present in the Montreal Impact squad. At the age of 37, he is still the league’s highest rated defender. That gives you a clue about his quality. He should be your first choice centre-back, but may retire even after just a single season.
Omar Gonzalez (United States of America)
One of the bright young talents to emerge from the country, he has won the MLS cup twice with Los Angeles Galaxy and is rated 72 in the game. This CB has the potential to reach 77 or even beyond depending on the way you play with him on career mode. Buy him quick before his value goes up in the market.
Christian Fernandez (Spain)
He is rated just 69, but you should be picking him since there is not a better left back in the league. He can rise up to the early 70’s if played regularly. He played for Racing Santander in Spain and UD Almeria before joining D.C. United in the MLS.
Midfielders
Michael Bradley (United States of America)
One of the best players in the current United States national team, Michael Bradley gets the nod ahead of his competitors for the holding midfielder spot. He is rated 76 in the game, but has a potential to reach 82 if played regularly in career mode. After playing for Roma, Bradley was transferred to MLS outfit Toronto FC. He is just 26 years old in the game, so his best years are ahead of him.
Diego Valeri (Argentina)
The 27 year old Argentine midfielder is playing for the Portland Timbers and you should look to deploy him on the right. He is a versatile player who can also play in the middle behind the two strikers, but he makes it to the eleven on the right because of the lack of high quality right midfielders in the league. He can grow up to 78 in the game.
Clint Dempsey (United States of America)
How can the United States captain not make it to this list? He again is a versatile player who can play as a number 10 or as a left midfielder. In this eleven though, we will make use of Dempsey on the left side of the pitch. He plays for the Seattle Sounders and has a rating of 81. But he probably won’t grow further in the career mode.
Tim Cahill (Australia)
One of the names that you have been eager to see on this list is here. Australian veteran Tim Cahill has joined forces with Thierry Henry at the New York Red Bulls and the duo are still scoring goals. The Everton legend makes it to this list as a pure Central Attacking Midfielder despite some fierce competition. But we will go with him as he is still rated 75 and has loads of experience.
Strikers
Jermain Defoe (England)
With a rating of 81, England’s Jermain Defoe is the highest rated striker in the MLS. After Roberto Soldado’s signing, he was deemed surplus to requirements at Tottenham and was hence sold to Toronto FC. He probably won’t be growing further in the game, but you can still have three good seasons with him if picked.
Robbie Keane (Republic of Ireland)
It was a tough choice since we also had the legendary Thierry Henry and USA’s very own Landon Donovan to consider, but with a rating point slightly above those two, the Irish legend Robbie Keane is our pick to partner Defoe in front of goal. He followed David Beckham by signing for Los Angeles Galaxy a few years ago and has a rating of 79 in the game.
