Big race to sign Stoke City keeper Asmir Begovic
Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has become the latest target of many Premier League giants looking to boost their last line of defence, and it looks like he is all set to break the British transfer record for a goalkeeper, with his club confident of getting £20 million in the event of an auction.
The current record for a goalkeeper is Manchester United‘s David De Gea, who was acquired by the Red Devils from Atletico Madrid for £18.3 million. With Sir Alex Ferguson looking to sign another keeper who will compete for the No.1 jersey, United maybe ready to break their own record.
The United boss has admitted that De Gea does have some flaws, but that is mainly due to the lack of experience the young Spaniard has. With Anders Lindegaard set to leave Old Trafford, Ferguson will try as much as possible to sign the 26 year old Bosnian.
The Potters are expecting many offers from European giants looking to sign their keeper. The club is expecting interest from Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and also, German giants Bayern Munich.
With Begovic ambitious to make a Champions League debut, it is likely that the Bosnian will end his three and half year career at the Britannia Stadium should he be offered a lucrative deal elsewhere.
Stoke are preparing themselves for the offers that will come their way for their keeper, and will not settle for any deal less than £15 million after add-ons and instalments. The club is also in no pressure to sell the former Portsmouth keeper until they get a satisfying deal, having signed a ready replacement in Jack Butland from Birmingham in January for just £3 million.
