Indian Super Cup 2018: Bikramjit Singh inching closer to a move away from Chennaiyin FC
What’s the story?
Delhi Dynamos are in close talks with Chennaiyin FC midfield wizard, Bikramjit Singh. Around six months ahead of a fresh Indian Super League (ISL) season to kick off, the Dynamos are looking to strengthen their squad.
They are out on a vicious hunt for a man who can bind their midfield and create chances, and not many can do it better than Bikramjit. Having been a part of a champion team, Singh will bring a lot of depth and experience into the Delhi Dynamos’ squad.
In case you didn’t know…
Bikram began his footballing career at the Sant Baba Hazara Singh Football Academy in Punjab. During an under-13 state tournament, he was called up to play for the Indian U-13’s and the consistent top-notch performances he delivered, made him irresistible to the selectors.
Following his long spell with the youth teams, he played in the I-League for AIFF XI in 2010 and scored his debut goal in the form of a corner kick that went straight into the back of the net.
Singh is one of the rare players who has happened to have made an appearance in the ISL play-offs since its inauguration. He has won the ISL title on two occasions and been a runner-up once.
The heart of the matter
Bikramjit is in close talks with the Dynamos who are said to be interested in offering him a long-term contract, Sportskeeda has learnt. He will make a stellar addition to the Delhi squad with Miguel Portugal in charge; the team could do wonders and prove their critics wrong under the Spaniard’s guidance.
The ’92 born Punjabi player later went on to play for top giants like the Churchill Brothers in 2012, Mohun Bagan in 2013, and ISL franchise FC Goa and Atletico de Kolkata (ATK) in 2015 and 2016 respectively on loan, before signing with the Chennai outfit of the Super League.
The Chennaiyin squad member accumulated over nine hundred playing minutes in the fourth edition of the ISL following his splendid contributions in his team’s title win. Of the fourteen games that he started, he was subbed out on twelve instances, most of which were after the sixty-minute mark.
On the other hand, his ability to put on a tough fight in the middle of the pitch even made him a top favourite of his coach John Gregory at CFC.
What’s next?
If Portugal’s team is successful in pulling this deal off, it would be of great help to Rohan Sharma’s ISL franchise. With around six months to go for the new ISL season, Bikramjit will have ample time to settle in and blend among his new teammates and get accustomed with the Delhi setup and get his new prospect club back to winning ways.
Author’s take
Bikramjit Singh is a player full of potential and calibre. With the experience and skill that he brings to a side, the Dynamos will be lucky to have him play for their team should his move to the capital turns out to be successful.
