Reports: Brazilian legend Ronaldo to visit India

Ronaldo is one of the best strikers the game of football has ever witnessed

Football fans in India are up for another treat as this time around former Brazilian international Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima aka 'The Phenomenon' will be visiting India. According to reports, Ronaldo will arrive in India this week as Delhi Dynamos’ special guest for their match against Mumbai City FC on the 6th of November.

His visit is linked to his close proximity with Delhi Dynamos marquee player cum coach and fellow Brazilian great, Roberto Carlos.

This will, however, be a packed visit for the ex-Barcelona and Real Madrid player, as his busy schedule won’t allow him any other engagements other than his appearance in the ISL encounter. According to a report in the Times of India, the scheduling and logistic issues of his trip are currently being worked out by the ISL Delhi franchise.

But nevertheless, he now joins the illustrious list of Brazilian legends such as Zico, Roberto Carlos and the great Pele, to grace India with their presence, courtesy of the Indian Super League.

Ronaldo has represented Brazil in three World Cups in 1998, 2002 and 2006 and was the winner of the Golden Boot award in the 1998 edition of the world football carnival in France. He has 98 caps for his country, in which he has scored an astonishing 62 goals.

Ronaldo scored twice in the 2002 World Cup final against Germany

He famously bagged a brace in the 2002 FIFA World Cup final over hosts Germany to win the coveted trophy for his country a record fifth time. He scored his 14th and 15th World Cup goal in the 2002 final; a record which was broken by Germany's Miroslav Klose only last year.

At the club level, Ronaldo played for PSV, Barcelona and Inter Milan. The two-time winner of the prestigious Ballon d'Or later joined Real Madrid in 2002 for a record £46 million. He played 187 games alongside fellow greats Zinedine Zidane, Luis Figo, Roberto Carlos, Raul and David Beckham for Real and scored a record 83 goals. He is also one of only four players to have won the World Player of the Year award three times or more.

Fans in Delhi and all over the country would be relishing the visit of the Brazilian icon and will no doubt be waiting for the 6th of November when this great football legend will grace JLN Stadium with his presence.
