BREAKING: Reading want India's Brandon Fernandes

English Premier League club Reading have made a $1 million bid for Indian teenage sensation Brandon Fernandes, ESPN has revealed.

The Goan born 19-year-old midfielder, who also holds a Portuguese citizenship, was invited for a two week trial with the club earlier this month, and it seems the club have been very much impressed, going by their offer.

Fernandes currently plays for ASD Cape Town, a South African Sports Academy, and negotiations are on for a transfer to Reading.

If successfully completed, the deal would be one of the biggest in Indian football history, surpassing even the likes of Baichung Bhutia, who played for Bury FC and Sunil Chettri, who currently plays for Sporting Lisbon‘s ‘B’ team.

The teenager is currently training with English Championship club Leicester City, who have also been impressed with the Indian’s skills.

Update: His agent has denied that there was any deal offered by Reading. This is what he had to say:

“There is no truth in this and we haven’t got any offer yet. Perhaps he (Brandon) misunderstood the question,” – John Steptoe

The same was confirmed by Susanna Steptoe, marketing director, ASD Cape Town, to which Brandon Fernandes is contracted to.

“Reports that Reading Football Club have made a concrete offer for Brandon Fernandes are completely untrue. Any publication that runs with them is actually compromising Brandon’s prospects and any negotiations that may be taking place. We ask you to kindly remember this and support us in protecting Brandon from irresponsible rumour,” – Susanna Steptoe
