British PM David Cameron calls for harsher action on Suarez over bite

Luis Suarez, the aggressive Uruguay international is not new to controversy. He has been involved in incidents of biting, deliberate hand balling, diving and racial abuse.

In light of Luis Suarez’s latest controversy, his bite on Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic, UK’s Prime Minister David Cameron’s spokesperson suggested that an example must be made of such violent offenders by imposing strict punitive action. His spokesperson added that since footballers are also viewed as role models, how strictly these mishaps are dealt with is observed by the world at large and especially the impressionable youth.

“It is rightly a matter for the football authorities to consider,” said the prime minister’s spokesman. “As part of their consideration, I think it would be very understandable if they took into account the fact that high-profile players are often role models.”

The statement from Prime Minister’s office may lead to an increase in Suarez’s punishment.

What must be noted however, is that this is the second time Suarez is involved in a biting incident. Otman Bakkal, who was at the receiving end of the first biting incident said, “I saw it and it was unbelievable. It’s something you can never imagine happening on a pitch.

“It happened once already. At first I thought maybe it was an accident but, apparently, he loses it sometimes. I don’t know what to say. I thought he meant it when he said sorry. I think he wants to win so badly that he loses his mind sometimes but afterwards he comes to his senses.”

The future of the Liverpool striker seems unsure, while it remains to be seen how FA reacts to the PM’s comments.
