Capital One Cup: Manchester United 1-0 Liverpool - Five talking points

David Moyes will certainly be relieved by the fact that he got over his disappointing start to the season by finally beating Liverpool 1-0 courtesy of a Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez goal. Moyes will be hoping for more of the same over the weekend, but before that let us look at the major talking points from the third round fixture of the Capital One Cup.

Before the start of the tie, the headlines were dominated by Luis Suarez’s return from a 10-match suspension and how he was the harbinger of hope for this side in transition. And whilst the Uruguayan certainly was Liverpool’s best player on the pitch, he still couldn’t push his side over the finishing line.

The Uruguayan certainly created plenty of chances and also had an astounding eight shots on goal, which also included hitting the bar, in a performance that would have pleased his manager. But Liverpool couldn’t take their chances and ultimately paid the price for it as they lost 1-0. After the match, Suarez himself admitted the same when he said, “the feeling is good because we played very well, we created chances but we missed”.

He also added “I’m here to help the team and help Liverpool and I’ll try my best.”
