Carlos calls out Dilliwallas for first home game of season
Ahead of their first home match in the second season of Indian Super League, Delhi Dynamos manager Roberto Carlos seemed buoyed about his team’s chances. Addressing the media, here in the capital, he asserted that the squad was upbeat and was looking forward to facing Chennaiyin FC tomorrow.
Asserting how the loss vs FC Goa was just an aberration and should not act as a deterrent, he said, “Mistakes happen in every game. What I spoke to them, during the post match meeting was that we lost because of our mistakes. I have been talking a lot with the team. Its a very short championship so you can’t make individual mistakes.”
Individual mistakes, as the gaffer mentioned contributed to both the goals. While Venicius’ foul right outside the area led to the 2nd goal, the opener had come through a deflection off Shouvik. Remarkably both of them were off moves initiated on the right wing; an area Carlos himself specialised in guarding during his time with Real Madrid and Brazil. While he did come on a substitute in the second half, the damage had already been done. Adding about his own participation, he added, “My last game before this was Real Madrid vs Liverpool. I was training a lot but not playing professionally. In fact, even vs Goa, I wanted to play since the beginning but it is hard for me. The young players have to do their job; if there be need though, I will be available always.”
Asked about not starting with last season’s top scorer - Gustavo Dos Santos, he asserted the youngster will get his chances, “He will always have an opportunity to play and show his mettle. He will be ready in the next game and perhaps do even better.”
The Dynamos will be missing local boy Robin Singh again, who is on international duty currently and might again start with Ghanaian starlet Gadze alone upfront. The marquee signing however played it down and called out to the people of Delhi to make up and make the entire team feel like they belong to the city, “We went to Goa, we saw 25000 supporters. Our stadium is bigger. Everyone is anxious to see us play. I would like to invite the supporters to come and watch a very nice game of Delhi. Come to the stadium if possible, otherwise support us on TV. It will be one of the best games of the competition.”
